Daddy Duty
Yesterday, the wife returned back to work after a few months of maternity leave. In her stead, I have vacated work for the next three months, dedicated to raising our daughter. True, this may drive me mad, but I take on this responsibility with great joy and anticipation and a renewed sense of purpose.
Over the past few weeks, in preparation for my new task, I removed all pointy, stabby, poisony things from easy reach. Doing so will ensure that I do not attempt to harm myself in anyway during my increasingly sleep deprived state (such as confusing the scissors for the orange juice carton).
Michelle? She’ll be fine. In my estimation, she’ll be watching over me much more than vice-versa. For instance, just yesterday I tried to sneak off to the bathroom for a much needed #2. Sensing my impending state change from cramped and uncomfortable to cleared and relaxed, she immediately began to wail, saving me from experiencing freedom ever again (well, for the next 18 years, give or take).
As we grow and learn things about one another over the next few months, I will endeavor to share those learnings with you. This morning, I learned that her favorite color is cottage cheese. She’s been showing it to me after every feed. She also likes when I blow “raspberries” into her stomach. Not the real fruit, mind you. God no! That would be witchcraft and I have not attained that level yet (need 10 more warlock points).
More to come.
